DRESSAGE: Olympic Gold Hat Trick For Anky
Individual Dressage Medalists: silver for Isabell (GER); gold for Anky (NED) and bronze for Heike (GER) (photo: Kit Houghton/FEI)
(Hong Kong, China) - Anky Van Grunsven claimed her third consecutive individual gold medal at the equestrian stadium in Hong Kong tonight (Tuesday). Lying second, but only 0.24% behind Germany's Isabell Werth after Saturday's Grand Prix Special, the Dutch star came into her own in the Freestyle to Music (Kur) which in recent years she has made all her own. And as Salinero danced his way to victory, Werth had to settle for silver with Satchmo while fellow team gold medallist, Heike Kemmer, claimed third with Bonaparte.

(Hong Kong, China) - Germany's Isabell Werth took another step closer to claiming the individual Olympic dressage gold medal when winning the Grand Prix Special at the equestrian stadium at Sha Tin in Hong Kong tonight (Saturday). But a moment of sheer drama during her test with Satchmo ensured that she holds only a slender lead over her great rival, The Netherlands' Anky Van Grunsven, going into Tuesday night's medal-decider, the Kur, which now promises to be a thriller.

(Hong Kong, China) - Germany's Heike Kemmer and Bonaparte threw down the gauntlet when producing a superb test to take the individual lead after the first session of the Dressage Team Grand Prix at Sha Tin on Wednesday night. And her dominant performance suggests that her nation's team record at Olympic Games - gold at every edition since 1964 except for Munich in 1972 – is unlikely to be broken in Hong Kong in 2008.

Key Facts: 28 nations; 79 horses and riders + 14 reserve horses and riders; 16 teams

If the form-book has anything to do with it then the fate of the 2008 Olympic Jumping medals is already decided – and most of them are hanging around German necks. Riders from 28 nations will compete in the Olympic show jumping discipline and a total of 16 countries will battle it out for the team honours including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Great Britain, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Switzerland, Sweden, The Ukraine and the USA.

OLYMPIC DRESSAGE PREVIEW
(photo: (c) Dirk Caremans)
Key Facts: 22 nations which is the highest number of nations ever. From 1984 to 2004, 18 nations were represented in the Dressage competition. The lowest number – four – was recorded in 1932 in Los Angeles where many nations were unable to travel because of the 1930s economic crisis; 50 riders and horses + 6 reserve riders and horses; 14 teams of three riders

The stage is set for another classic clash of the two super-stars of international Dressage. And a rule-change for the team event guarantees edge-of-the-seat excitement in this discipline from the outset.

The battle for medals in Eventing at the 2008 Olympic Games promises to be a fascinating one. Riders from 25 nations will line out in challenging weather conditions and, further fuelling the excitement, the lead-in period has seen the return of one of the greatest exponents of the sport, disappointment for the confident British who might have expected to dominate, and the continuing rise of a prodigious French talent.
